THE MAKER
One maker.
One hat at a time.
Yan didn't grow up making hats.
He grew up standing out.
Long before Ocha Hat Company existed, Yan was the person people noticed before he said a word. Sometimes it was his style. Sometimes it was his hair, his glasses, his tattoos, or simply the way he carried himself. He was always drawn to self-expression—to the details that make someone unmistakably themselves.
He's also the kind of person who can't leave things alone. The kind who loses sleep over details. Who obsesses over craftsmanship, quality, and getting something exactly right. Once an idea gets into his head, it stays there until he's mastered it.
So when he discovered hat making, something clicked.
What started as a late-night YouTube rabbit hole quickly became an obsession. After long days working double shifts at a car dealership, Yan spent his nights in the basement teaching himself the craft. Blocking. Steaming. Shaping. Stitching. Learning every detail he could get his hands on.
No one told him to do it.
He simply couldn't stop.
Two weeks after making his first hat from scratch, he quit his job.
Ocha Hat Company was built in a Chicago basement with a hat wall, a conformateur, and a decision to bet on himself.
Today, every hat begins with a conversation. Yan wants to know who you are, how you move through the world, and what you want people to feel when you walk into a room. Then he creates something that reflects that.
Each hat is measured to the exact shape of your head and built entirely by hand. No templates. No shortcuts. No two hats are ever the same.
For Yan, hat making is more than a craft.
It's wearable art.
It's self-expression.
In a world that encourages people to blend in, he believes the right hat gives you permission to stand out.
That's the whole point.
In a world that encourages people to blend in, the right hat gives you permission to stand out.
